Just in time for summer fun… New Products!

Living in New York City, we get to see the most stylish women! Such eye candy: in the subway, on the street… It’s great to see such personal expression, and so inspiring for a designer!  I am thrilled to say that we are introducing a whole set of new products, available immediately.  I have added several new shapes of bags as well as the introduction of nylon in 4 colors.  What a logical addition to the laminated canvas: it’s also lightweight and easy to clean… And of course reasonably priced (would you expect anything else from us?).  Along with 3 new bags, we also have a new duffel, a wheeled duffel and a great new computer sleeve! We would love your feedback…!!!

Finally! It’s summer…

I am so happy it is finally summer! All those cold New York mornings, the dog walks with 2 mufflers, the hey-I-thought-these-boots-were-waterproof moments are a distant memory: it’s warm! Fireflies, barbeques, friends and family…. Ah!!!
So what are we at Jane Marvel wearing for summer? I took a poll:
JILL – I am always carrying my All Day Long – works great at the beach!
CATHI – I like the Satchel since I can take it to work and put all the kids’ stuff in too!
JACKI – The Jitney of course!!
Let us know what you’re carrying!
But most of all, enjoy…

Our Giveaway to DRESS FOR SUCCESS

Happy New Year to all! I hope everyone feels rested and positive, and ready to make 2010 a great year.
As many of you may have noticed, we introduced our “Dress For Success” collaboration at the end of 2009: we have partnered with this wonderful organization in the past, and feel that they are a terrific asset for women across the country. For those of you unfamiliar, the mission of Dress for Success is “to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.” Our pledge was to donate 2 computer bags for every one that was ordered on our site. The response was wonderful! We have already donated over 100 computer bags. Because of the positive response from all our customers, we have decided to continue to give. So spread the word! We’ll keep going for as long as we can… We at Jane Marvel believe that positive self-esteem is essential to personal growth: i know that when i feel pulled together and professional, i always feel more confident walking into a meeting or an interview. Of course our computer bags are not just for computers since you can use them as a basic briefcase or paper carrier. Please send us your feedback! And let’s hope this year holds great promise for us all.
Stay warm!

Happy Holidays to all!

It has been a tumultuous year, hasn’t it?  I don’t think I am the only one looking forward to a “new leaf” in 2010!  And now that the holidays are upon us, I know that I am counting my blessings for all the goodness and joy in my life that helps to sustain me.

All of us at Jane Marvel would like to wish you a healthy, safe and joyous holiday season.

Jane, Jill, Cathi, Hillary, Michelle, Florence and Rebecca

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer was in New York this past Saturday and Sunday, and as I watched the mothers, daughters, children, neighbors and friends I felt so inspired:  their slogan is “In It To End It” which is such a pure and simple sentiment.  Sadly, we have all probably been touched by this disease in some way or another.  This year we are donating 20% of all sales of Satchels to the Breast Cancer Research Fund to help eradicate this killer from all our lives.

We also keep a link on the home page of our website that allows you to fund a free mammogram.  Please take  a moment and click on that link: you will be directed to www.breastcancersite.com and in one brief moment you will have funded a mammogram for someone who can’t afford it.

If we all take little baby steps, soon we’ll be one giant step closer to finding a cure.  And that is something to hope for.

Hello from “Jane Marvel”

So where does the name “JANE MARVEL” come from anyway?  Good question since it is my name while at the same time it’s not “my” name!

Here’s the dish:  my husband’s name is Andy.  When he was born his mother (my delicious mother-in-law, Lynn) was doing her dissertation on the 17th century English poet Andrew Marvell.  So Andy’s middle name became unofficially Marvell.  Meanwhile, Mr. Andy grew up to be this crazy talented musician so when he went pro he made Marvel his professional last name.  It kind of became our second last name (and it’s our son Nick’s middle name!) – I guess it was a pretty easy decision to then name my company JANE MARVEL…

I like the fact that i have 2 last names!  When Andy and I got married i told him I’d take either of his last names as my own and he decided we would legally stay with his birth name, Saidenberg – which of course made my being a hyphenate impossible since then I’d be Jane Rosenberg-Saidenberg.  Sigh.  So I leapt straight into Saidenberg and never looked back.
